St. Johann Baptist (Kronenburg)
St. Johann Baptist is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Kronenburg district of the Dahlem community in the Euskirchen district (North Rhine-Westphalia).
The church is registered as an architectural monument under number 66 in the list of architectural monuments in Dahlem (Northern Eifel) .
history
The Kronenburger church was built from 1492 to 1508 in the late Gothic style as a two-aisled single-pillar church. The order for the construction came from Countess Mechthild von Virneburg , who thereby fulfilled the last will of her husband, Count Kuno I. von Manderscheid and Schleiden . The bell tower also served as a defense tower during raids . In addition, located Choir in the basement of the tower, which including a choir tower represents. The sacristy was added in 1517.
Probably this is not the first church building at this point in Kronenburg. The church was renovated in 1899 and 1952 , with murals and a relief being exposed in the interior .
Furnishing
Inside are the keystones of the vaults . Among other things, they represent St. Eligius , a coat of arms, Mary with child Jesus, the parish patron John the Baptist and St. Sebastian . There is also a wall painting from the 16th century in the church. It shows the struggle of St. George against the dragon. There is also a relief depicting the parable of the wise and foolish virgins . The windows were created by the glass painter Wilhelm de Graaff around 1952.
