Barny Murphy
Barny Murphy , real name Gerhard Gmell (born March 2, 1954 in Munich ), is a guitarist and founding member of the Spider Murphy Gang .
life and career
During his apprenticeship as a telecommunications fitter, Murphy taught himself to play the guitar as an autodidact . He orientated himself on the guitar technique of Chuck Berry . Since he had played in various school bands and dance bands, Murphy became a professional musician in 1976. With Günther Sigl and Franz Trojan he played the electric guitar at the cover band Stummick in many clubs in American barracks . In 1977 they were founding members of the Spider Murphy Gang together with keyboardist Michael Busse.
With their number one top hit from 1981, Scandal in the Sperrgebiet , the band achieved a considerable increase in popularity throughout the German-speaking area, laying the foundation for a successful career as a guitarist for Murphy.
With the " unplugged concerts " started in 2002 , he also played the band's hits with acoustic guitar . In 2004 the scandal was recorded unplugged and live in the Lustspielhaus .
In addition to his work as a guitarist, he also works as a music producer . Together with Armand Volker he produced the song Linda of the group The Ace Cats , which reached number 17 in the German single charts in 1984 . In 1997 he produced the album for his band Keine Lust auf Bad Zeiten .
In his private life, Murphy is a passionate golfer.
