Richard Barnaby "Barney" Storey MBE (born March 13, 1977 in Wimborne Minster ) is a British track cyclist who also acts as a pilot in paracycling competitions for visually impaired cyclists. He is considered the UK's most experienced paracycling pilot.

At the age of twelve, Barney Storey began cycling to emulate his older brother. He eventually concentrated on track racing and was British champion four times from 2000, in keirin , team sprint , tandem racing and in the single pursuit .

Since 2004 Storey has also been leading visually impaired cyclists as pilots in tandem races. In 2004 he competed with Daniel Gordon at the Summer Paralympics in Athens , and the two athletes together finished fourth in the sprint and fifth in the time trial . At the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing he won gold twice with Anthony Kappes , and at the Paralympics in London he won gold in the time trial and silver in the sprint with Neil Fachie . In addition, he won several medals as a pilot at the UCI Paracycling World Championships . Together with Kappes, Storey formed the first paracycling team to win the open British championship in tandem racing .

Private

Barney Storey is married to the physically challenged athlete Sarah Storey , who won a total of eleven gold medals at Paralympic Games in cycling and swimming up to 2014. Together with his wife, Barney Storey forms the "Team Storey"; both also give lectures.
