Anthony Fitzhardinge Gueterbock, 18th Baron Berkeley , OBE (born September 20, 1939 ), known as Tony Berkeley , is a British Labor Party politician .

Origin and family

Anthony Gueterbock is a great-grandson of Ludwig Güterbock (* October 23, 1814 in Berlin ; † February 28, 1895 ibid.) And Bertha Lesser (* February 8, 1821; † January 9, 1894). Both gravestones are still in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin, Schönhauser Allee 23-25.

Ludwig was the first of his family to study and on November 4, 1867, he became a secret medical councilor . Anthony Gueterbock is related to Karl Güterbock (* April 18, 1830; † July 9, 1914), his father Eduard (* October 22, 1801; † December 3, 1875), and Hans-Gustav Güterbock (* May 27, 1908; † March 29, 2000), whose grandfather Gustav (born May 19, 1820; † October 3, 1910) was Ludwig Güterbock's eldest and youngest brother.

Career

After attending Eton College and studying at Trinity College in Cambridge , Gueterbock graduated with a Master of Arts (MA), he started a career in civil engineering and was chairman of George Wimpey plc until 1987 . He was then responsible for public relations during the construction of the Eurotunnel until 1995. Gueterbock is currently Chairman of the Rail Freight Group . He is a member of the European Commission's European Energy and Transport Forum and President of the Aviation Environment Federation, the UK's leading non-profit organization for a green future in aviation.

Gueterbock inherited the title of Baron Berkeley after the death of his aunt Mary Foley-Berkeley, 17th Baroness Berkeley, on October 17, 1992 . On April 18, 2000, as Baron Gueterbock , of Cranford in the London Borough of Hillingdon, he was raised to a Life Peer , since according to the House of Lords Act 1999 the hereditary peers left the House of Lords and he was otherwise no longer a member of the House of Lords could have been.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and the Chartered Institute of Transport (FCIT) and received an Honorary Doctorate (D.Sc.) from Brighton University in 1996 .
