Barrow-in-Furness is an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Cumbria in England , which includes the Furness peninsula . The administrative seat is the city of the same name Barrow-in-Furness , in which more than three quarters of the population live. The district also includes Askam-in-Furness and Ireleth , Dalton-in-Furness and Roose .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the former county borough of Barrow-in-Furness and Dalton-in-Furness. The area previously belonged to the county of Lancashire .
