The Bartın Çayı is a river to the Black Sea in the Bartın Province in northern Turkey .
The Bartın Çayı was called Parthenios (Latinized: Parthenius ) in ancient times . The river has its source in the Küre Dağları , a mountain range of the West Pontic Mountains , on the provincial border with Kastamonu . The Bartın Çayı initially flows in a west-southwest direction. He passes the Ulus County Administrative Center . At Abdipaşa the Gökırmak flows into the river from the left. This turns to the northwest. The D755 trunk road follows the course of the river. The river passes the provincial capital Bartın , from which it is navigable. After another 14 km he reaches the Black Sea. Other major tributaries are Arıt Deresi from the right and Kocanaz Deresi from the left. The river has a length of about 100 km. Its catchment area covers 2059 km². It is the only river in Turkey on which the carriage of cargo is permitted. The area approved for freight is 7 km.
