Bartolomé Ordóñez
Bartolomé Ordóñez (* around 1480 in Burgos ?; † 6. December 1520 in Carrara , Italy ) was next to Diego de Siloé , Felipe Bigarny and Andrés de Nájera one of the most famous Renaissance - sculptor of Spain .
Life
Little is known of Bartolomé Ordóñez's life. In his will he describes himself as a “Burgaleser” (that is, from Burgos or the surrounding area) and mentions a sister who lives there. In 1515 he founded a workshop in Barcelona , where he employed three Italians (Simón de Bellalana, Victorio Cogono and Juan Florentino) as employees. This led to the assumption that he received part of his artistic training in Italy. In 1519 he married Catalina Calaf in Barcelona, who died that same year. Only a year later, Bartolomé Ordóñez also died on a trip to Carrara.

His first known commission is the creation of the choir stalls and the marble decoration of the Trascoro of the Cathedral of Barcelona . A few months later he was commissioned to produce a non-existent reclining figure of the dead Christ for the Hospital de la Santa Creu . In December 1517, however, he and Diego de Siloe took on an order for the Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara in Naples. His most famous work is the - originally Domenico Fancelli ascribed - tomb for Philip the Beautiful (1478-1506) and Johanna the Mad (1479-1455) in the Capilla Real of the Cathedral of Granada , which he did not complete. In the same year he or members of his workshop created the tomb for Cardinal Cisneros in the cathedral of Alcalá de Henares . Some of the tombs of the Fonseca family in the Church of Coca are also attributed to him.
A list and photos of his or his ascribed works can be found in the Catalan Wikipedia article.
