Barton Stone

Barton Warren Stone (born December 24, 1772 in Port Tobacco Village , Province of Maryland , † November 9, 1844 in Hannibal , Missouri ) was a Christian clergyman and co-founder of the North American Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) .

Life

Stone came from an Anglican family. He studied theology at Guilford Academy in North Carolina , where he heard, among others, James McGready , and became a Presbyterian preacher. Together with Thomas Campbell he founded the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and with him formed the Restoration Movement in the United States.
