Barton Township is located in southwest Indiana about 35 km north of the Ohio River , which forms the border with Kentucky . The Wabash River , which forms the border with Illinois , is about 45 km to the west.

The Barton Township is located in southeast Gibson County and borders east on Pike and south on Warrick County . Within Gibson County, Barton Township is bordered by Johnson Township to the southwest, Union Township to the west, Center Township to the northwest and Columbia Township to the north .

In a north-south direction, Indiana State Route 57 runs through the township, into which Indiana State Route 168 joins at its eastern end point . All other roads are subordinate and partly unpaved roads.
