Baru was a German indie pop band that was founded in Werdau in 2007 under the name Neon Pingu Pussys and disbanded in December 2018.

The later name of the band refers to the stage name of the French comic artist Hervé Barulea .

history

The band was founded in 2007 under the name "Neon Pingu Pussys". In 2010 she won the f6 Music Award endowed with 30,000 euros . In the same year they performed at the Reeperbahn Festival .

In 2011 the band was renamed "Baru".

On October 25, 2013 Baru released her first album Sailors of the City on the Kick the Flame label , which was created in collaboration with producer Tobias Siebert . Supporting the Kilians and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , the band has already been on tour across Germany. The band has been rehearsing and producing their songs in Leipzig since August 2014 . In March 2016, the band had their first major headlining tour, which also included concerts in Paris, London and Ghent.

The second album Levity was released on September 23, 2016 . Here, too, the production took place together with Tobias Siebert. In it, the band embarks on a dark and melancholy journey through a sound garment based on the 80s. At the end of 2016 Baru was named Leipzig's “Band of the Year 2016”.

After a little more than 10 years, the band members decided in 2018 to break up the formation and say goodbye to the audience with a final tour entitled Goodbye for now . Their motivation was that “different places of residence, life situations and, above all, small descendants” ( Ferdinand Weigel : Verlin private club) had prompted them to take this step.
