Broken Silence ( spelling BROKEN SILENCE Independent Distribution GmbH, in the BROKENSILENCE INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTION logo ) is an independent music distributor based in Hamburg . The company sells CDs , records , DVDs and merchandising items as well as digital media in the independent sector.
history
Broken Silence was founded in 2004 by Holger Fleder and Stefan Vogelmann. Both previously held managerial positions in the independent sales department Energie für Alle (EFA) . Started with four employees, the company has 18 permanent employees in 2019. Broken Silence also acts as a training company for audiovisual media professionals. Broken Silence takes on the distribution of over 200 music labels from different genres , with a focus on indie, new wave, jazz, rock'n'roll, world music, ska & reggae and cabaret.
Broken Silence also takes over the worldwide digital distribution for the labels. Via various partners for physical sales, the company operates outside of Germany in Europe and on the US and Japanese markets. Linked to the sales department, Broken Silence operates its own distribution label called Broken Silence Records, which brings out selected publications.
