Basílio do Nascimento (born June 14, 1950 in Suai , Portuguese Timor ) is Roman Catholic Bishop of Baucau in East Timor . Nascimento is also chairman of the Timorese Bishops' Conference.

Life

On June 25, 1977, do Nascimento received the sacrament of ordination in Dili . Pope John Paul II appointed him apostolic administrator of the newly created diocese of Baucau and titular bishop of Septimunicia on November 30, 1996, and ordained him episcopal on January 6, 1997 . Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Miroslaw Marusyn .

When Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo resigned as Apostolic Administrator of Dili for health reasons, Nascimento became Apostolic Administrator of Dili. A few days after Alberto Ricardo da Silva's appointment as diocesan bishop of Dili, Nascimento was appointed bishop of Baucau on March 6, 2004. When Silva resigned for health reasons on February 9, 2015, Nascimento was again apostolic administrator of Dili for the duration of the sedis vacancy until January of the following year .
