Basciano is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the municipality of Monteriggioni in the province of Siena , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is about 6 kilometers southeast of the capital Monteriggioni and about 6 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Siena in the Chianti area at 328 m slm. In 2001 it had about 50 inhabitants. Today (2017) there are approx. 70. The most important body of water near the place is the Torrente Staggia , which flows approx. 1 km to the north.
history
The place is mentioned for the first time as Basiano ... in finibus Senense in the year 812 in a donation in favor of the monastero di S. Bartolommeo di Pistoja , to whom three farms were bequeathed. Basciano is later mentioned in documents from the Monastero di Sant'Eugenio (Siena, Costafabbri district) and that of the Trafisse .
Attractions
- San Giovanni Evangelista , church in the town center. The church was built in the 13th century and was restored in 1726 and 1954.
- Villa Parisini (also called Villa Parigini and Villa Sansedoni ), from 1750 built by Giovanni Sansedoni villa with Italian garden ( Giardino all'italiana ) just outside and east of Basciano. The villa was bequeathed to Eleonora Cennini in 1831, who gave it to her nieces and nephews Eleonora, Luisa Terrosi e Alibrando Parigini in 1839. From 1847 to 1954 the villa officially belonged to the Parigini, then it became the property of the Province of Siena ( Amministrazione Provinciale di Siena ).

- Basciano is not far from the Raccordo autostradale 3 , junction Badesse . The ascent and descent to and from Siena is approx. 1 km away, and that to Florence approx. 2.5 km.
- The nearest rail stop is in Badesse, approx. 2 km away. It is on the Siena- Empoli railway line .
