Bashful Alley was an English hard rock and new wave of British heavy metal band from Lichfield that was formed in 1980 and disbanded in 1984.

history

The band was founded in late 1980 by guitarist Rob Tidd and bassist Ian "Truff" Threlfall. At that time both were still studying at Lancaster University . Before that, they had played in smaller bands in the Midlands in the late 1970s . The line-up was completed a short time later by the singer Dave Slamen and the drummer Ian "Donkey" Brown. This was followed by the first rehearsals before a demo was recorded that contains the songs Running Blind , My My My and She Only Wants Me for My Body . In addition, she held the first local appearances. Bashful Alley also stood in for a band that was supposed to play with The Sweet but didn't show up. The performance took place at the members' college . The group had been chosen for this through previous connections with the university. The group expected a higher level of awareness through the performance, but fewer people attended the concert than the band's own concerts. After they finished their studies, Threlfall and Tidd joined drummer Robin Baxter. Tidd then took over the vocals. The band then re-recorded the previous demo in October 1981 at Saccen Studios in Stourport-on-Severn . Of these were Running Blind and My My My as a single in 1982 with Ellie Jay Records released. After all copies were out of print, the single was re-released on the band's own label Graffiti Records. At that time, the band held other gigs. She also went to Switch Studios to record demos of songs like Rescue Me and Light It Up . During performances in the Midlands, the group was also able to play with Wolfsbane . Since there were still hardly any labels interested in the band, they tried in 1984 with the addition of a second guitarist named Anthony Jones. Within the year, however, the band broke up. In 2005, the compilation It's About Time was released on CD and record via High Vaultage Records and High Roller Records . In 2013 and 2014 the band performed at the Brofest in Newcastle upon Tyne .

style

According to Malc Macmillan in The NWOBHM Encyclopedia , the songs on the single Running Blind move in the medium speed range and would be similar to the songs on Omen Searcher and Lyadrive . With the addition of Anthony Jones, the band steered more towards Thin Lizzy . Otger Jeske highlighted the rough sound of the band in NWoBHM New Wave of British Heavy Metal The glory Days . For him, the band was one of the best of the era. In The International Encyclopedia of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal , a clear status quo influence was highlighted for the songs Running Blind and My My My . In The Ultimate Hard Rock Guide Vol I - Europe the group as is boogie - rock band described.
