Bassi Pathana ( Panjabi ਬਸੀ ਪਠਾਣਾਂ ) is a city in the Indian state of Punjab .
Bassi Pathana is located in the Fatehgarh Sahib district . The city is located 6 km north of the district capital Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib on the road to Morinda . Bassi Pathana has a train station on the railway line from Sirhind to Morinda.
Bassi Pathana was the first municipality in the district to receive city rights (1939 as Town Committee ). The city of Bassi Pathana today has the status of a Municipal Council and is divided into 13 wards . At the 2011 census, the population of Bassi Pathana was 20,288. Ten years earlier the population was 19,058.
The city is believed to date back to the founding of the Afghan Malik Khan in 1540, who settled here during the reign of Sher Khan Suri . Bassi Pathana later became the administrative seat of the Nizamat Amargarh of the princely state of Patiala . During the era of the Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU), Bassi Pathana was the administrative headquarters of the subdivision Fatehgarh Sahib. Today the city is home to the administration of the Tehsils and Blocks of the same name .
