Basu Chatterjee

Basu Chatterjee (also Basu Chatterji ; born January 10, 1930 in Ajmer , Rajasthan , † June 4, 2020 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ) was an Indian film director and screenwriter of Hindi films .

Life

He came to Bombay in the 1950s and worked for 18 years as a cartoonist and illustrator for RK Karanjia's weekly magazine “Blitz”. In 1959 he was involved in founding the "Film Forum Society".

He began his active work for the film as assistant director for Basu Bhattacharya's debut film Teesri Kasam (1966) and Govind Saraiya's Saraswatichandra (1968). His first self-directed film, Sara Akash , was made in 1969 and earned cinematographer KK Mahajan a National Film Award for best camera . His second work Piya Ka Ghar (1971) was an adaptation of the marathic film drama Mumbaicha Javai (1970) by Raja Thakur . He then moved to low-budget comedies such as Rajnigandha (1974) and Chhoti Si Baat (1975) with Amol Palekar in the lead role.

In the 1980s, Chatterjee shot parts of television series for the station Doordarshan . He has also directed Bengali films since the late 1990s .

Like Alfred Hitchcock , Basu Chatterjee appeared in mini-roles in his films as an extra.
