Bauweiler

Bauweiler is a former place in the municipality of Merzenich , Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also referred to as "Bouwyler".

Bauweiler was east of Golzheim , where the Schoellerhof stands today, in the direction of Niederbolheim (city of Kerpen ).

At the beginning of the 2nd millennium, Bauweiler belonged to Gladbach . Gladbach was a free allodial good . Around the 10th to 12th centuries, Bauweiler consisted of a parish church and at least four manors . The first documentary mention dates from April 22, 1304. On October 23, 1344, Friedrich II of Cronenburg and Neuerburg gave his two thirds of the village and court of Bauweiler to the Margrave of Jülich . The other third belonged to the Lords of Merode . They handed over the now free allodial court to the Antoniterkloster in Cologne . After Vincent von Moers , the rule of Gladbach and Bauweiler passed to the Lords of Palant in 1486 . On September 24, 1794, French revolutionary troops occupied the place. Bauweiler became part of Mairie Golzheim in the canton of Düren in the Rur department .

The church or chapel was built by the Lords of Cronenburg and dedicated to St. Martinus has been consecrated. The oldest collation dates from 1439. There was also a rectory in Bauweiler.

In 1875 Leopold Schoeller bought the Bauweiler property. He had the dilapidated buildings torn down and built a new manor, the Schoellerhof. Thus the place became a desert .
