Work description

The full title is “Bavaria. A comprehensive register of localities and parishes of the kingdom with details of their number of inhabitants, the relevant regional or district courts, administrative districts, dioceses and consistory; Designation of the Catholic and Protestant parishes, curatia, Exposituren and Vicariate, as well as compilation of higher and lower court and administrative offices, e.g. B. the district governments, appellate courts, jury courts, district courts and their districts, commercial courts I. and II. "

The list consists of a systematic (p. 1–13) and an alphabetical part (p. 14–50) and a correction (p. 51).

The systematic part contains general information on Bavaria (p. 1), the church structure (p. 1–2), the eight administrative districts (p. 2–9), the customs offices (p. 9), and the Bavarian army (P. 10–11), to the teaching and educational institutions (p. 12) and to the post offices (p. 12–13).

The general information is very brief, the church structure is essentially limited to the Catholic Church. Here the individual dioceses are listed with information on the number of Catholics, deaneries, parishes, priests, etc. In the case of the Protestant church, only the four Consistorial districts are mentioned. Other denominations (Reformed, Baptists, etc.) or religions ( Judaism ) are completely absent. The administrative districts are dealt with in the order Upper Bavaria , Lower Bavaria , Palatinate , Upper Palatinate and Regensburg , Upper Franconia , Middle Franconia , Lower Franconia , Swabia and Neuburg . The offices named in the full title are specified, if necessary with area of responsibility. Only cities are listed here for locations.

In the alphabetical part, all municipalities and "localities [... which] are reasonably important because of their population" are listed. Hamlets and wastelands are not taken into account at all; villages can only be found arbitrarily according to the vague definition. For each listed municipality there is information about the denomination, the responsible regional court and administrative district and the number of inhabitants.

The denomination indicates the Catholic diocese to which the community belongs ( Diocese of Augsburg  [A.], Diocese of Bamberg  [B.], Diocese of Eichstätt  [E.], Archdiocese of Munich and Freising  [MF.], Diocese of Passau  [ P.], Diocese of Regensburg  [R.], Diocese of Speyer  [S.], Diocese of Würzburg  [W.]) or to which Protestant church district (Oberconsistorium München [ OC. ], Consistorium Ansbach [ A. ], Consistorium Bayreuth [ B . ], Consistorium Speyer [ S. ]). A distinction is made between a Catholic parish  [†], a Catholic curate  [*], a Catholic parish branch  [**], a Protestant parish [§] and a Protestant parish vicariate  [§ *]. The administrative districts appear in abbreviated form like the above information: Upper Bavaria [ .], Lower Bavaria [ .], Palatinate [ .], Upper Palatinate and Regensburg [ .], Upper Franconia [ .], Middle Franconia [ .], Lower Franconia [ .], Swabia and Neuburg [ .].

criticism

The processor does not indicate when the data was collected. As far as the number of inhabitants is concerned, a check reveals that they were taken over from the geographical-statistical-historical manual of the Kingdom of Bavaria (1852/1853). However, this does not provide any information about the deadline for the surveys, as the author of that manual does not give any sources.
