Bay Village is a city in Cuyahoga County in the US -Bundesstaat Ohio . It is located around 20 kilometers west of Cleveland on the shores of Lake Erie , is 18.4 km² and had (2000) 16,087 inhabitants, 98.0% of them white.

Bay Village goes back to a scattered settlement on the northern edge of Dover Township , which was known as North Dover . The population operated fishing and apple and peach plantations. After the Civil War , some wealthy Clevelanders built their weekend houses on the lake shore.

Due to tax disputes, the settlement was founded on July 20, 1901 as a Bay Township . The name was changed to Bay Village in the course of the city elevation on January 1, 1950.

After North Dover had a rail connection through the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad in 1882 , the population increased sharply in the course of the 20th century from 450 inhabitants in 1910 to 3,700 (1940) to the current around 16,000 inhabitants. Agriculture was pushed back by residential development and ultimately abandoned; industry worth mentioning has not yet emerged.
