The Bayer Sports Stadium , also known as the Stadion am Wollenhofweg , is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Uerdingen district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Krefeld in the Bayer Uerdingen sports park , which uses and owns the SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen .
history
After the company sports association of Bayer AG and FC Uerdingen 05 (now KFC Uerdingen 05 ) merged to form FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen in 1953, they wanted to get a stadium. However, construction did not begin until 1962. The club's footballers only stayed until 1971, when they moved to the Grotenburg Stadium after moving into professional business . The amateur footballers stayed at what was then the stadium on Lassenhofweg until the later KFC Uerdingen 05 had to leave the facility around the turn of the millennium. In the meantime, the stadium was expanded into an athletics base. In 1985 the European all-rounder cup took place here. The new football department of SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen has been playing its home games here for some time .
