Be'Lakor is an Australian melodic death metal band from Melbourne . The band name refers to the character of the same name from the Warhammer universe.

history

Be'Lakor was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2004, but the band only began writing their own songs in 2005. In 2007 she released her first studio album The Frail Tide , which was recorded, produced and marketed entirely on her own. The album received mostly positive reviews. In June 2009, Be'Lakor signed a deal with Prime Cuts Music and released their second studio album, Stone's Reach . The album received very good reviews throughout and was named Best Melodic Death Metal Album 2009 on the Internet portal Metal-Storm.net as well as number 1 of the 20 best albums of 2009. In November 2009 the band signed a contract with the Italian label Kolony Records. She also played as a support act on the Australian tour of the Finnish Viking metal band Turisas .

In August 2010 Be'Lakor performed for the first time outside of Australia at the Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbühl . There the band first became known to a larger audience and was considered a kind of insider tip. In 2012 the third studio album Of Breath and Bone was released. Like the second album, it received consistently very good ratings (e.g. 9 out of 10 points on Metal.de). In the same year the band performed again at the Summer Breeze Festival and at the Brutal Assault Festival in Josefov, Czech Republic . A fourth album was announced for spring 2016.

At the end of 2015, the drummer Jimmy Vanden Broeck left the band to devote himself to other musical projects. He was replaced by Elliott Sansom, who had previously played in the Melbourne bands Future Corpse, Okera and The Seaford Monster. In February 2016, the band signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records . The new studio album Vessels was released in June .

style

Complex and detailed compositions are typical of Be'Lakor's music. The music is free of the typical structure “verse-refrain-verse”, fast and dynamic parts alternate with more melodic sections and calm acoustic passages. The songs contain a multitude of melody and tempo changes, and usually reach a length of between 7 and 8 minutes; the band's longest song to date, Withering Strands from the album Vessels , is just under 11 minutes long. The vocals are growled in typical Death Metal style , in contrast to many other bands in the genre, Be'Lakor does not use clear vocals.

Many of the songs have a dark and melancholy atmosphere, which is why the band is occasionally compared to Scandinavian bands such as Insomnium or Omnium Gatherum .
