Beat Glogger

Beat Glogger (born March 12, 1960 in Zurich ) is a Swiss science journalist , television presenter and author .

Life

Beat Glogger studied microbiology and biochemistry at the University of Zurich from 1979 to 1984 and graduated as a qualified scientist. From 1985 to 1987 he completed a traineeship at the science magazine MTW of Swiss television as well as journalism training at the media training center . From 1987 to 1999 he was editor and moderator of MTW and from 1994 also chief editor. Under his leadership, the magazine changed from a conventional educational program to a popular science information magazine .

From 1999 to 2002 he lived as a correspondent for Swiss television and a freelance science journalist in Central America , from where he supplied work to various newspapers, magazines and television stations in Germany and Switzerland. Since his return to Switzerland in 2003, he has been working with his agency Scitec-Media GmbH in the field of science communication . In addition, since 2005 he has been head of studies for science journalism at the media training center, the Swiss School of Journalism. From November 2009 to February 2017 he was also responsible for the weekly “knowledge” pages of the commuter newspaper 20 Minuten . Since January 2016, his agency has been producing the "Wissen" pages in various Swiss-German daily newspapers. Glogger is the founder of higgs.ch , a web platform for science journalism that went online in 2018. At the end of 2018, he initiated the establishment of the “Knowledge for All” foundation, which aims to promote science journalism.

Glogger has published several popular science non-fiction books and two science thrillers . In 2005 he was awarded the “Prix Media” of the Swiss Academy of Sciences for his debut Xenesis .

He is the father of a son.
