sinkhole -Gewässer |
The Beberteich is a pond created by a sinkhole between Barbis and the desert of Königshagen on the southern edge of the Harz in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony . The lake, made famous by a story by Hermann Löns (1866–1914), is about 300 m above sea level on the Karst hiking trail and feeds a source stream of the Beber , which flows into the Oder west of Pöhlde .
In 1908 Hermann Löns often stayed in Barbis, the place where his second wife's parents lived, and often wandered through the area south of Barbis and often stopped at the Beberteich. The very heavy agricultural use of the area, which paid little attention to nature, displeased him and was reflected in his story "Der Beberteich". A small plaque on the Löns oak on the north shore of the lake reminds of him.
