Friedrich Graf von Berchtold, Freiherr von Ungarschitz (Czech: Bedřich Karel Eugen Všemír (Wssemjr) hrabě von Berchtold, svobodný pán z Uherčic ; born October 25, 1781 in Stráž nad Nežárkou Bohemia ; † April 3, 1876 in Buchlovice Moravia ) was a Habsburg - bohemian, k. k. and k. u. k. Austrian doctor and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Bercht. "

Live and act

The roots of von Berchtold are in Austria. Friedrich von Berchtold received his doctorate in 1804. med. and then belonged to the Medical Faculty of Prague University. In addition to his work as a general practitioner, he dealt extensively with the natural sciences, especially botany . He made several research trips through Europe, the Middle East and Brazil. His scientific publications also include a six-volume work on the flora of Bohemia .

Friedrich von Berchtold was an advocate for the national rebirth of the Czechs . Together with his brother Leopold von Berchtold (not his great-nephew, later Foreign Minister Leopold Berchtold ) he was involved in founding the Prague National Museum .

In 1805 he and Ferdinand von Geramb collected 65,000 guilders in donations for the residents of the Giant Mountains threatened by famine .
