Belaja Rus ( German White Rus , historicizing name for Belarus ) is a Belarusian political-civil society association in support of the long-time President Aljaksandr Lukashenka in various parliamentary and presidential elections. The founding congress took place on November 17, 2007. The Russian party “ United Russia ” is said to have served as a model .
The chairman of "Belaya Rus" is Aljaksandr Radskou , who at that time served as Belarusian education minister and is currently the deputy head of the presidential administration. The number of members is said to be more than 80,000 Belarusians. In October 2008 almost half of the members of the Belarusian parliament were members of this political association.
A transformation of the "Belaja Rus" into a "real" political party is not ruled out. Most recently, Oleg Proleskoweski, the Belarusian Minister for Information and "Lukashenko's chief ideologist" called for this in the summer of 2012.
In February 2013 the association signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish Samoobrona . In the future, the two associations want to exchange experiences, hold press conferences together and conduct studies together. In March 2013, a cooperation agreement with the Latvian opposition party Saskaņas Centrs followed . In December of the same year another agreement followed with the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan , the largest party in Tajikistan . In addition, representatives of Belaja Rus congratulated the Venezuelan politician Nicolás Maduro on his victory in the 2013 presidential election .
The organization awards a youth literature prize called the "Golden Feather of Belaya Rus".
