Belaruskaje Radyjo Racyja (short: Radyjo Razyja , Polish : Białoruskie Radio Racja ) is a Polish radio broadcaster from Białystok , which broadcasts in Belarusian .

history

Plans to set up a Belarusian station in Poland emerged in the mid-1990s. The project was realized in 1999. On November 3rd of that year broadcasts began on medium wave , and on December 29th, broadcast on FM began .

From 2002 to 2006 there was no broadcasting due to a lack of funding. Some of the employees migrated to Eurapejskaje Radyjo dlja Belarusi during this time . Today Radyjo Razyja is financed by the Polish government.

Political framework for the station in Belarus

Similar to Belsat , Radyjo Swaboda and other foreign media in Belarusian language, Radyjo Razyja sees itself as an independent source of information for residents of Belarus and thus as an alternative to the media controlled and censored by the Belarusian government under President Aljaksandr Lukashenka .

Radyjo Racyja has employees in Belarus who do research on site and create programs. In spring 2008 there were reports of increased repression against employees of foreign media. Numerous journalists are said to have been arrested, some on charges of insulting the president.

In May 2015, Radyjo Racyja received a warning from the Belarusian Ministry of Information for allegedly spreading untruths. In Belarus it is current law that media can be closed after two warnings have been issued: in 2015, several media received corresponding warnings. Radyjo Racyja works from abroad, which means that a "closure" by the Belarusian authorities is not possible, but the Belarusian government could take measures against the correspondents working for the radio in Belarus or limit the reception of the radio in Belarus.

reception

In the Białystok area and in the immediately adjacent Belarusian area around Hrodna , the broadcasts can be received 24 hours a day on the VHF frequency 98.1 MHz. A daily half-hour program is also broadcast on the VHF frequency 103.8 MHz of the Lithuanian Polish-language station Radio Znad Wilii in Vilnius and can thus be heard in the neighboring Belarusian areas. In addition, the program in Belarus can now only be followed via the Internet after the broadcasts on short wave 2007 and medium wave 2009 were discontinued for cost reasons. A mobile app has also been available since 2015.
