Beleluja ( Ukrainian Белелуя ; Russian Белелуя Bełełuja , Polish Beleluja ) is a village in the east of the Ukrainian Oblast Ivano-Frankivsk with 1500 inhabitants (2004).
The village, first mentioned in the 16th century, is the only place in the district council of the same name in Snjatyn district and is located on the bank of the Belelujka ( Белелуйка ), a 30 km long left tributary of the Prut . about 10 km northwest of Snyatyn district center and 100 km southeast of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast center .
Archaeologists uncovered a settlement of the Cucuteni-Tripolje culture in the village . In addition, they found Roman and Byzantine gold coins dating from the 4th and 5th centuries.
Personalities
In 1794 the Ukrainian priest, author, cultural and educational activist Ivan Osarkevich was born in Beleluja and in 1855 his granddaughter, the Ukrainian writer and organizer of the Ukrainian women's movement Natalija Kobrynska, was born in the village .
