Great stone grave Neukalen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Neukalen was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Neukalen in the Mecklenburg Lake District ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It was destroyed in 1852 to obtain building material for the construction of the road from Neukalen to Pisede .

location

The grave was in the border ditch between Neukalen and the Franzenshagen forestry yard.

description

Only imprecise information is available about the grave. When it was removed, it was initially not recognized as such. It was quite small and had several small capstones. A huge bed either did not exist or was not recognized by the workers. The orientation and dimensions of the complex have not been handed down, the exact type of grave can no longer be determined. The burial chamber contained the heavily weathered remains of a human skeleton and an unadorned amphora with a cylindrical neck and spherical belly, which is now in the collection of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Archaeological Museum in Schwerin .
