The Belluno Alps are a mountain range on the southern edge of the Eastern Alps .
They are located in the Italian regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto . They include the province of Treviso , the former province of Pordenone and partly the province of Vicenza . It is named after the city of Belluno . The highest peak is the Col Nudo with 2472 m slm .
They belong to the Southern Limestone Alps and are mainly composed of chalk limestone from the Southern Alps . Main dolomite can be found in the summit areas .
Until the revision of the Alpine Association of the Eastern Alps (AVE) in 1984, the Belluno Alps had the number 55.Since then, the northern part has been assigned to the Dolomites and the southern part to the Southern Carnic Alps - this is also used as the Belluno Pre-Alps in the Partizione delle Alpi , where it forms group 55d of the Venetian Alps (55). The northern part is also called the Belluno Dolomites or the Schiara group , after the main summit, Monte Schiara ( 2565 m slm ).
The northern, dolomitic part has been a national park since 1990 : Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi .
