Ben Zabo was born at Tominian in the Ségou region. There he spent his childhood. Growing up in a noble family as a member of the Bwaba tribe , he discovered his passion for music. At the age of 14 he began studying music with François Koita, director of Tominian's orchestra, the Bwa Band. His education lasted until he finished high school in Sikasso in 1999.

After arriving in Bamako, where he began studying pharmacy , he joined Binké's group Coumba in 2000 on the recommendation of bassist Maxim Koita. Ben Zabo went on tour with the band for two years and played with several music groups in Bamako, before founding his own band in 2006 . In the same year, Ben Zabo began studying music at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Multimedia Bamako in order to pursue a career as a professional musician.

There he met Peter Weber, owner of the European music label Glitterhouse Records . He offered him to record an album and distribute it internationally. Ben Zabo's self-titled debut album was produced in Bamako in 2011 by Chris Eckman ( Dirtmusic , The Walkabouts ) and released in 2012 by Glitterhouse Records.
