Benedikt Bisping (born July 24, 1967 in Münster ) is a German local politician ( Greens ) and from 2008 to 2020 mayor of the Central Franconian district town of Lauf an der Pegnitz in the district of Nürnberger Land .

biography

As the oldest of three brothers, Benedikt Bisping was born in Münster, Westphalia. He has lived in Lauf since 1975. In 1983 he started training as an industrial clerk at Speck Pumpen Lauf. In 1986 he and his two brothers founded the photo presse bisping GbR, which later became Bisping & Bisping GmbH & Co. KG. In 1997 he founded the Bund Naturschutz Service GmbH as a subsidiary of Bund Naturschutz in Bayern eV ( BUND-Landesverband ) with headquarters in Lauf train station (left of the Pegnitz). In 2003 he married the geologist and Green Party politician Lydia Hufmann-Bisping.

Bisping was elected to the Laufer city council in 1996 and has held various positions there ever since. From 2007 to April 2008 he was parliamentary group spokesman for the joint parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and FDP . In a runoff election for the office of mayor, Bisping was able to prevail on March 16, 2008 with almost 63 percent against his opponent from the CSU . Since taking office on May 1, 2008, he has been the full-time First Mayor of Laufs and thus successor to the long-time CSU Mayor Rüdiger Pompl . On March 30, 2014, Bisping was re-elected as First Mayor for another six years with 55.7 percent.

On July 9, 2008, Bisping was elected in Lindau as the first representative of his party to the state board of the Bavarian Association of Cities and was confirmed in this office on July 9, 2014 in Altötting. He is also a member of the main committee of the German Association of Cities and the School Committee of the Bavarian Association of Cities. From 2008 to 2014 he was a member of the environmental committee of the Bavarian Association of Cities.

In autumn 2010 Bisping was elected to the state party council of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Bayern and was confirmed in this office on October 7, 2012 at the state delegates' assembly in Rosenheim. He is a member of the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the district council of the district of Nürnberger Land and treasurer of the Bavarian Municipal Association, district association of Nürnberger Land.

He initiated the exhibition Trans-Siberian Railway from May 2014 in the industrial museum in Lauf and from October 2014 in the Deutsches Museum in Munich and supported it with his own loans.

In the local elections in March 2020, Bisping had to stand in the runoff against competitor Thomas Lang from the Free Voters. He was only barely defeated on March 29, 2020 and was not re-elected.
