Bengt Hägglund
Bengt Vilhelm Hägglund (born November 22, 1920 - † March 8, 2015 ) was a Swedish Lutheran theologian.
Life and meaning
After receiving his doctorate at Lund University in 1951, Hägglund was first assistant professor, and from 1958 he was a representative of a professorship in Lund . After a visiting lecturer at Heidelberg University , he returned to Lund in 1960 as a research fellow. Further guest stays in Mainz , Leipzig , Rostock and Greifswald followed. From 1969 to 1987 Hägglund was professor for the history of ideas in Christianity ( kristendomens idéhistoria ) in Lund.
Hägglund's main research areas were the theology of Martin Luther and Lutheran Orthodoxy as well as questions of method in dogmatics . His most popular book Teologins historia (first 1956) was u. a. Translated into German, English, Portuguese, Latvian and Russian.
Hägglund was Vice President of the Luther Academy in Ratzeburg from 1975 to 1995 . He was awarded honorary doctorates from the Universities of Saint Louis and Bochum and in 2007 the Hermann Sasse Prize of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church .
