Bengt Westerberg (born August 23, 1943 in Södertälje ) is a Swedish politician of the Liberalerna .

Life

Westerberg studied medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Solna near Stockholm . He then studied economics and philosophy and graduated from Stockholm University in 1974 . From 1983 to 1995 Westerberg was party chairman of the Folkpartiet . From October 4, 1991 to October 7, 1994, he was Minister of Social Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister in Carl Bildt's government . From 1984 to 1994 Westerberg was a member of the Reichstag .

Westerberg was married twice. His first divorced marriage has two daughters and his second divorced marriage has a son.

Until 2011, Westerberg was chairman of the Swedish Red Cross . He withdrew after the Swedish media objected to the amount of his salary.
