Per Unckel
Carl Gustav Per Unckel (born February 24, 1948 in Finspång ; † September 20, 2011 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish politician of the Moderate Collection Party ( Moderata samlingspartiet ).
Life
Unckel became involved in the Moderate Collection Party and its organizations at an early stage, and between 1967 and 1968 he was Reich Chairman of the Moderate Schools' Association MSU (Moderat Skolungdom). After he was chairman of the Moderata ungdomsförbundet (MUF), the youth organization of his party, between 1971 and 1976 , he was elected for the first time as a member of the Reichstag in the elections of September 19, 1976 and was a member of this until 1986. During this time in 1980 he was also the campaign manager of the Moderate Rally Party in the referendum on nuclear energy .
After leaving the Reichstag, he became party secretary of the Moderata samlingspartiet in 1986, before being appointed Minister-President Carl Bildt 's education minister in his cabinet in 1991, where he was a member until the end of Bildt's term in 1994. During his term of office in 1992, the so-called "Friskolereformen" fell, an educational reform of the independent schools. In October 1994 he was also acting Minister of Defense for a few days .
In the Reichstag election of September 18, 1994 , Unckel was again elected as a member of the Reichstag, to which he was a member until September 15, 2002. During this time he was last chairman of the constitutional committee between 1998 and 2002. In 2003 he succeeded Søren Christensen as Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, an organ of the Nordic Council , and held this position until his replacement by Halldór Ásgrímsson in 2007.
In 2007, Unckel became governor ( Landshövding ) of Stockholm County and held this office until his death. The day before his death he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal Stockholm University of Technology .
