Ben "Bennie" Hofs (born November 2, 1946 in Arnhem-Klarendal , Gelderland ; † June 4, 2017 , ibid) was a Dutch football player . As a professional he was active for the SBV Vitesse in his hometown for 15 years .

life and career

Hofs began his career in the youth of the Arnhemse Boys before moving to Vitesse at the age of 16. On November 22, 1964 he came in the match at PEC for his first use in the first team, which was still playing in the Tweede Divisie at that time . With the Arnhemers he rose in 1966 under the Austrian coach Pepi Gruber from the second to the Eerste Divisie , in 1971 under Cor Brom to the Eredivisie . After the direct relegation, the team only succeeded again in 1977 to rise to the top division. Hofs was part of the team in Vitesse's first Eredivisie season that suffered the highest defeat of the Ehrendivision in 2017 with a 1:12 at AFC Ajax in Amsterdam .

In seventeen years Bennie Hofs came to Vitesse on 426 competitive appearances, 42 of them in the Eredivisie, before he ended his career in 1979 with a knee injury. His last appearance was on June 4, 1979 in a 1-1 draw against FC Utrecht . In the 1960s he was appointed to various youth teams at the KNVB and in Jong Oranje .

After his active career, Hofs took over a snack bar in the Arnhem district of Klarendal, which he ran with his wife until 2007.

In 2011 the association made him an honorary member and a Zilveren Vitessenaar ("Silver Vitessener").

Ben Hofs is the brother of Henk Hofs and an uncle of Nicky Hofs , who were also professional footballers at Vitesse.
