Benoît Audran the Elder
Benoît Audran the Elder (born November 22, 1661 in Lyon , † October 2, 1721 in Louzouer , Loiret ) was a French engraver .
He and his brothers Claude Audran III and Jean Audran were sons of the engraver Germain Audran (born December 6, 1631 in Lyon, † May 4, 1710 there; eldest son of Claude Audran I).
He was a student of his uncle Gérard Audran . His oeuvre includes over 200 engravings. In addition to reproductions based on Charles Le Brun , François Verdier, Eustache Le Sueur and Pierre Mignard, he also made numerous vignettes for books, such as Daphnis and Chloe in 1718 .
In 1709 he was admitted to the Royal Academy , with a portrait of Jean-Baptiste Colbert after Claude Lefèbvre (1633-1675) and Raising of the Cross after Lebrun .
