Benvenuto Italo Castellani (born July 1, 1943 in Cortona , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Lucca .

Life

Benvenuto Italo Castellani was ordained a priest on June 15, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Faenza-Modigliana on April 19, 1997 . The Cardinal Vicar of the Diocese of Rome and Archpriest of the Lateran Basilica , Camillo Cardinal Ruini , donated him episcopal ordination on June 15 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Giovanni D'Ascenzi , Former Bishop of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro , and Flavio Roberto Carraro OFMCap , Bishop of Verona .

As a motto he chose Christ heri et hodie et in saecula . On May 31, 2003, the Pope appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Lucca. After Bruno Tommasi's retirement , he succeeded him on January 22, 2005 in the office of Archbishop of Lucca.

On January 19, 2019, Pope Francis accepted Benvenuto Italo Castellani’s age-related resignation.
