Berdien Nieuwenhuizen

Berdien Nieuwenhuizen (born October 18, 1962 in Alkmaar as Berdien Christina Nieuwenhuizen ) is a Dutch artist.

Life

From 1982 to 1987 she studied industrial design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. After a few years as an employee, she opened her own studio in 1991. From 2008 to 2010 she deepened her studies at the Utrecht University of the Arts with the goal of becoming an art teacher.

The artist first appeared in public in 2002, when she showed The Fragile Basics, an installation of various clothes made from different types of paper, at the Holland Paper Biennale. Characteristic of Berdien Nieuwenhuizen's work are floral motifs and the choice of materials (textile or paper), through which the transience of nature should be expressed.

On the side, Nieuwenhuizen works as an art lecturer at various institutes, for example the Amsterdam branch of the Hermitage Museum .
