Berg is a village in the municipality of Ebenthal in the Klagenfurt-Land district in Carinthia with 77 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

geography

Above the Mieger valley in the eastern Sattnitz rises a plateau remnant, which is known as the "mountain". The hilly plateau at around 600–680 m above sea level is occupied by several farms and numerous châteaux . Numerous second homes have also been built since around 1970. The village of Berg belongs to the market town of Ebenthal and has 77 inhabitants. Berg is accessed by a road from Obermieger (560 m above sea level). The village is surrounded on all sides by dense forests. To the east, the plateau drops around 100 m to the Sabuatach depression.

history

In 1309, Duke Otto of Carinthia awarded Peter von Liebenberg, among other things, the mill in the Zablat and an associated hat. The mill was probably one of the many house mills that were built in the mill ditch that opens from Sabuatach to the south to the Drava. In 1589 courtyards on the "Gravensteiner Perg" were first mentioned. In the land register it is called “Neue Huben und Keuschen”. This seems to indicate a recent development, comparable for example to the development in Lippizach, where the settlement also fell at that time. A little later, however, there is more precise talk of bought new Huben and Keuschen on Gravensteiner Berg.

Forms of settlement

The restless terrain of the mountain plateau with its crests and valleys is filled with a network of wasteland block corridors, with the size decreasing towards the northeast, where the terrain appears smaller. In terms of settlement, this type of land corresponds to the scattered settlement.

Due to the domed relief, the scattered settlement consists of several small clearing islands, in which, in addition to the Huben as larger agricultural operations, such as the Raunjak, Stippich, Lastl Huebniak or Dobernig, numerous chests emerged after 1580. Around 1970 there were a total of 24 farms, 18 of which were still in use. These included 7 full-time farms, 1 part-time farm, 8 part-time farms, 1 pensioner farm and 1 picker farm .
