The nature trail is a 9.1 km long circular route. There are parking spaces at the Aktivist Kulturhaus in Bad Schlema. The course is shown on a large board. The route runs through forests, over heaps and new spa gardens around the community . Large panels explain the peculiarities of the renaturation of these montane-historical locations.

Stations

  1. Kulturhaus Aktivist The starting point is at the Kulturhaus Aktivist. The uranium museum with exhibits from the SDAG Wismut is located in the cultural center . Furthermore, the restaurant "Zum Füllhorn" is located in the house with recreated scenes underground.
  2. Zeche 50 The station can be reached via the wooded Kohlberg. The former heap has been reforested, so the view is only partially possible.
  3. Halde 250 The shaft 250 was located in the middle of a residential area. The Schneeberger Floßgraben is nearby . During the renovation work, the dump material was used to fill in the deformation area in Oberschlema .
  4. Light hole 9 of the Markus Semmler Stolln At light hole 9 of the Markus Semmler Stolln, the panels provide information about the origin, use by the old mining and the bismuth and the importance of the tunnel for the current ventilation of the community.
  5. Stockpile 38alt The shaft 38 was the most significant bismuth mine. Was funded initially with a wooden shaft tower, the plant was modernized in 1954 and with a doppeletagigen steel headframe equipped. Mining to a depth of almost 600 meters was stopped in 1970.
  6. Hammerberghalde, vantage point 1 The light hole 13 of the Markus Semmler Stolln was sunk further through the bismuth for weather guidance. The dump material comes from the shaft 13b. After 1991 the dump was secured and from 2001 dump material was removed and greened.
  7. Hammerberghalde, vantage point 2 The sign here indicates the importance of the Hammerberg-Haldenbahn. Since the mining shafts were in the middle of the inhabited area, roads were first spanned with wooden conveyor bridges. Due to a lack of space, it was necessary to remove overburden with a dump track. The track width was 900 mm and the total length of the track was almost 8 kilometers.
  8. Biedenkopfblick The panels at this station explain the methods of dump rehabilitation and show the transition from the deformation area to a modern spa . Ingrid and Kurt Biedenkopf were honored for their commitment to the transformation of Bad Schlema and the viewpoint was named "Biedenkopfblick".
  9. Squirrel source At this station, the signs explain the damage to the Silberbach and Schlemabach and the rehabilitation of the affected area.
  10. Station 10 The board at station 10 no longer exists. Since the signposted path on the nature trail leads over a busy road, you should not follow the signposted trail on the nature trail. To get to the next station, you should follow the course of the Silberbach over the parking lot at the campsite.
  11. Renovation Hammerberghalde Here you can find out the scope of the renovation work on Hammerberghalde. Among other things, dump material was poured in to ensure stability and covered with 550,000 cubic meters of cultivated soil. Cavities were also filled with concrete to protect the deformation area . The holes reached a depth of 50 meters.
  12. Shaft 15IIb / Markus-Semmler-Stolln - visitor mine Due to deformation, shaft 15b could no longer be used. In order to continue to have access to the Markus Semmeler-Stolln, shaft 15IIb was sunk in 1984. The shaft was used for rehabilitation even after active mining was stopped. The access to the visitor mine is also located here. There is a miners ' monument and an oversized Schwibbogen at the parking lot . You should also visit the colliery area, which is about 100 meters away. Here is the Geotop " Roter Kamm " and the Huthaus of St. Mark Semmler- Stolln, on the lower ground.
  13. Marktpassagen This station can be reached through the Kurpark as the new center of Bad Schlema.
