Bergendorf is a district of Holzheim in the Donau-Ries district , which belongs to the administrative district of Swabia in Bavaria .
geography
The village of Bergendorf is located east of Holzheim between Riedheim and Hagenheim on the plateau of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger terrace stairs . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . The district of Bergendorf also includes the Einödhof Todtenheim (popularly called Tannenhof), which is east of Bergendorf.
The Hollerstock cave is exceptional , a 14 m long cave that is the only cave between the Alps and the Danube so far.
history
The name Bergendorf derives from the fact that the place is in the middle of hills. Todtenheim was originally called Totenmaymer , later Totenhahn .
Documented is the mountain village first mentioned in the Bavarian Duke Urbar 1280 under Official Neuburg. The Bavarian dukes donated several farms to the Scheyern monastery until 1300 . In the years that followed, the Niederschönenfeld Monastery also owned Bergendorf. Todtenheim is first mentioned in 1322. In the following period it belonged to the Bergen Monastery and thus later to the Jesuit Seminary in Neuburg.
There is a valuable wooden altar relief from 1470 in the Fourteen Helpers Chapel. The chapel was built around 1850 and is entered in the list of monuments. Bergendorf belongs to the Catholic parish of the Assumption in Holzheim.
A three-sided courtyard (Dorfstrasse 10, marked 1924) and the so-called “Villa” (Dorfstrasse 22) in the late Wilhelminian style built in 1902 are also under monument protection .
In 2018 and 2019, a village renewal was carried out in Bergendorf.
Until June 30, 1972 the municipality of Bergendorf belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and was then added to the district of Donau-Ries , which until May 1, 1973 was called the district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth , as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The incorporation of Bergendorf with Todtenheim into the municipality of Holzheim took place on January 1, 1976.
