The purple Reddish Bergenie ( Bergenia purpurascens ) is a plant of the genus Bergenia ( Bergenia ) in the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae). The species forms hybrids with Bergenia crassifolia , Bergenia cordifolia , Bergenia stracheyi and Bergenia ciliata .

The purple-red bergenia is an evergreen, perennial plant that reaches heights of 25 to 40 centimeters. It forms a rhizome . The leaf blade is elliptical or ovate-elliptical, its base is rounded or wedge-shaped. The flowers are nodding. The petals are usually purple in color, rarely light pink, and measure 1.5 to 2.5 × 0.7 to 0.9 centimeters. The flower stem, the inflorescence branches and the sepals are dark purple or brown in color and have numerous sessile and some stalked glands.
The flowering time is in May and June.
Occurrence
The crimson bergenia occurs in east Nepal, Sikkim, north Assam, north Bhutan, south-east Tibet, north Myanmar and in China in Yunnan and Sichuan in rock corridors and borders of bamboo bushes, in open and partially shaded places between low rhododendrons at altitudes of 1800 to 5100 meters.

The purple bergenia is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens , borders , dry stone walls , groups of trees and pond banks. It has been in culture since 1849 at the latest.
