background

The classic Swiss film was produced by Eduard Probst in 1942 . He used an unpublished story by Maurice Zermatten , a Valais writer, as a template .

To bring the cameras and headlights to the position Probst wanted, six mules and twenty-five porters were required - a great deal of effort at the time.

Swiss radio and television have restored the only surviving copy of the film.
