The Mannndlenen mountain hut, sometimes also referred to as the Weber hut, is an alpine refuge operated by the Hintisberg mountain community . It is located at an altitude of 2344  m in the Bernese Pre-Alps north of Burglauenen on a pass of the ridge that stretches between Lake Brienz and the valley of the Black Lütschine . The Mannndlenen mountain hut is suitable as a stopover on the high path from Faulhorn to Schynigen Platte .

history

Before 1930, the Schynige Platte - Faulhorn mountain hiking trail had to be hiked without a snack. At the beginning of the 1930s, Hans Weber, a trained shoemaker and operator of a small chicken farm, came up with the idea of setting up a small refreshment facility about halfway between Schynige Platte and Faulhorn. At first Hans Weber tried to feed the passing hikers with just a chair and a milk can. However, he was exposed to the weather conditions and so he decided to move the chicken house on his small chicken farm to Mannlenen. At that time there were no helicopters and there was no road to the nearest Alp Hintisberg either. In 1934 the hen house of the chicken farm was demolished and transported on pack donkeys and horses, mostly on the back of a few compulsory workers, to Männndlenen at 2,344 meters above sea level from the valley up the mountain to Mannlenen (over 5 hours walking time).

There were major difficulties with the permit. Since the Faulhorn and the Schynige Platte had no interest in competition, of course, they made objections to the “Milchhütte”. Hans Weber was fined several times for hosting without a permit. The high court from Bern soon appeared, fortunately bathed in sweat from the hike, and therefore saw that there was a great need for a new way of catering. The permit was immediately granted - but only non-alcoholic beverages could be served. In 1952 a new, larger hut was built, which for the first time offered overnight accommodation for the operators (they had to hike to the lower alpine pasture every evening) and for guests. However, the new hut was no longer owned by Hans Weber, but by the Hintisberg mountain community, which actually owned the entire property and still belongs to today.

At the end of 1954, Hans Weber had to terminate the lease due to family and (private) financial reasons. A new tenant was soon found. This tenant, Christian Anneler, managed the “Milchhüttli” for 13 years until the end of 1967.

In 1968 Hans Weber's son - Willy Weber - took over the milk hut with his wife Greti and ran it for 29 years until 1996. At the beginning of the 1970s, Willy Weber was allowed to serve alcoholic beverages. At this time, the first material transports were made by helicopter. The name "Weberhüttli" manifested itself.

In 1997 Robert Reichen took over the Weberhüttli. In 2002 they actually wanted to renovate, expand and enlarge the outdated Hüttli. However, it was found that in the building built in 1952, built in the barrack system, the wooden sleepers and girders were completely rotten. So the old hut had to be torn down and replaced with a new one. It had not undergone any major renovations since 1952, only in 1982 the roof was dented and damaged by storm and snow masses, which therefore had to be replaced.

The new hut was opened on July 5, 2002 as planned. Since the hut is seldom shown on a hiking map and the location, which is also indicated on the signposts, is called "Mannndlenen", the hut was renamed "Berghaus Männdlenen (Weberhütte)".
