history

Epitaph of the Berglase couple

The family was first mentioned in a document in 1350, when Jacob Bergelaze sold his income from his village Gingst to Johann Lütteke, a citizen of Stralsund, for 100 marks . The family did not reappear in documents until 1468, when the Bergelase brothers acquired the village of Vanzelvitz and the Worke farm from Duke Wartislaw X. for the impressive sum of 1,000 marks at the time. In 1557 Erich Bergelase was a documentary witness for the confirmation of Duke Johann Friedrich as Bishop of Cammin . 1604 paid homage to Henning auf Teschvitz, son of Erich ; Erich and Arnd on Losentinz, sons of Balzer ; Henning auf Labenitz, son of Henning and Henning auf Schlagvitz, son of Balzer . For the Landrentmeister and Erbherrn on Teschvitz Andreas von Berg hydrolases († 1615) and his wife Clara of Rotermund is located on the first northern gallery in the church Franzenburg a nearly four-meter-high Epitaph of sandstone . The family was able to occupy the highest office under the knighthood on Rügen twice and thus provided the governor of Rügen . In 1687, District Administrator Wilken von Berglasen , heir to Losenitz, Schlagvitz, Teschvitz and Buhse and Arend von Berglasen , heir to Lavenitz, had knights and feudal horses. In his capacity as district administrator, Wilken von Berglasen also took part in the Swedish visitation commission for the Wismar upper tribunal in 1688 . With the sale of Klotzow and a dairy in Wangelkow in 1766, the Bergelase was last mentioned in a document back home. Although some sons of the family are said to have been in imperial service, it is generally assumed that the family ended at the end of the 18th century.
