The 517 km long Berjosowka ( Russian Берёзовка ; from Russian berjosa, birch; also Beresowka ) is a right tributary of the Kolyma in eastern Siberia ( Russia , Asia ).
The Berjosowka flows along its entire length mostly in a wide valley through the Jukagiren Plateau in the northeast of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) . The catchment area covers 24,800 km². The mean monthly water flow in the middle course (near Berjosowka, 202 km above the mouth) is 62.5 m³ / s (minimum in April: 0.03 m³ / s, maximum in June: 254 m³ / s). The Beryosovka freezes from October to mid-May. In the middle and upper reaches it can freeze through to the bottom in some years from December to April. The river can be used for logging. In the catchment area of Beryozovka there are about 2,000 lakes .
Gold mines have been operated along the river since 1744, and at the beginning of the 20th century they were among the most productive in the Urals and produced particularly pure gold .
One of the first mammoths preserved in permafrost was discovered on the Berjosowka at the beginning of the 20th century . The Beryosovka mammoth was brought to Saint Petersburg and scientifically examined there. A dermoplasty and the prepared skeleton have been in the permanent exhibition of the St. Petersburg Zoological Museum since 1903 .
