The Berliner Hymnentafel is a Berlin vocal ensemble of twelve men founded in 1974 under the direction of Werner Kotsch (* 1941). Among other things, they sing a cappella songs from the 1920s to 1950s in the style of the Comedian Harmonists . Her repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the Beatles. They are also known for their German songs in collaboration with Matthias Koeppel .

history

The ensemble first appeared on November 10, 1974 on the occasion of the exhibition "Aspects of the Founding Period" at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1975 it began its collaboration with the State Institute for Music Research (SIM). Matthias Koeppel took up his work as a copywriter for the hymn table. This was followed by numerous appearances in the Natubs gallery and a series of concerts in the Capitol Dahlem. The first radio and television recordings were made in 1976, and in 1977 the hymn table appeared at the Berliner Festwochen and at the radio exhibition . In 1978 she performed at the Roman-Germanic Museum in Cologne , in Eutin , in the Berlin Museum and repeatedly at the Berliner Festwochen. From 1979, Rose Monday concerts were held at irregular intervals. 1980 Appearances together with Otto and in Alfred Biolek's broadcast Wahllokal at WDR in Cologne. In 1981 two long-playing records were released. In the same year numerous appearances on the occasion of the Prussian exhibition in Berlin. In 1982 recordings were made on Radio Bremen and WDR. In 1984 the hymn table sang on the occasion of the awarding of the Grimme Prize in Marl; On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the SFB brought a special broadcast. In the next few years numerous concerts and appearances took place as part of the Green Week Berlin , the Federal Garden Show, the radio exhibition and the European Music Festival Stuttgart (1988). In 1990 they gave a joint concert with the Charité Vocal Quintet . With the world premiere of Giacomo Meyerbeer's Das Brandenburger Thor in 1991 they made a contribution to the reunification of the city. In the same year and 1992 invitations to events of the Hessischer Rundfunk were made. In 1994 they celebrated their twentieth anniversary with a speech by Matthias Koeppel. In 1999 they had their 500th appearance at the Hotel Kempinski Berlin . This was followed by regular concerts in the Otto-Braun-Saal Berlin and in the chamber music hall of the Philharmonie . 2001 Performance of the Prussian revue Without gloss no glory on the occasion of the anniversary “300 years of Prussia”. 2004 two gala concerts for the 30th anniversary of the Berlin hymn table. In 2005 a CD was released to commemorate Fritz Löhner-Beda , the world-famous and unknown songwriter ( In der Bar zum Krokodil , Oh Donna Clara etc.) and operetta librettist by Franz Lehár .
