Bernard Benton (* 6. January 1957 in Toledo . Ohio ) is a retired American boxer and both WBC - and " Ring Magazine " - and lineal championship in the cruiserweight division .

Professional career

Benton suffered his first defeat in his fourth professional fight. In 1984 he beat the undefeated South African Pierre Coetzer (9-0-0) and Rickey Parkey each on points and lost to Marvis Frazier . On March 27 of the following year he faced the undefeated Boone Pultz (10-0-0) for the USBA belt and failed.

In September of the same year he won the world championship title of the WBC by a majority decision against Alfonso Ratliff . In his first title defense, he had to give the belt to Carlos De León . Against Pierre Coetzer (21-1-0), against whom he won on points in 1984, he lost to TKo in 1987

After three years of inactivity, Benton made his comeback against Alex Garcia (17-1-0) in 1990 and lost to a classic knockout in round 2. However, he was able to win his last three fights.
