Bernard Scottlander (* 1924 in Mainz , † 1991 in Oxfordshire ) was a German-British industrial designer and sculptor .

life and work

Scottish was born in Mainz in 1924 . He came to Leeds as a Jewish refugee when World War II broke out in 1939 . He worked as a welder and armorer and attended evening classes in sculpture at the Leeds School of Art . From 1949 to 1951 he studied industrial design at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London . From 1965 he taught there.

As early as 1956, he designed ashtrays, chairs and lamps for the National Theater in a small workshop of his own. From 1963 Scottish worked only as a sculptor and had a first exhibition in 1964 at the Architects Association in London. In 1966 a solo exhibition followed at the Art Gallery of Hamilton , in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada . He lived and worked in Oxfordshire .
