Bernd Beckhusen (born October 31, 1940 in Berlin ) is a German motor boat sportsman .

Life

The trained car locksmith ran a car company until he retired; He has lived in the Dominican Republic since his retirement and managed the motorsport career of his son Mike.

Beckhusen began as a motorcyclist with MC Strausberg in motocross, which he competed in from 1958 to 1964. When a driver injured himself at the MC Post Berlin motorboat club, Beckhusen got into boating. He was internationally successful as early as 1967. From 1972, like all other motorboat racers, he was no longer allowed to drive to international title events because motorboating was not one of the state-sponsored sports in the GDR. During this time he won twenty-four GDR championship titles, as many national titles as neither a racing boat driver nor any other motorsport enthusiast has ever achieved. In 1982 Beckhusen received the GDR honorary title "Honored Master of Sports". After the fall of the Wall , he achieved further medal positions at world and European championships. Since he was barely able to train due to stricter environmental protection regulations in and around Berlin and because of quarrels and disagreements with the German Motor Yacht Association, which was responsible throughout Germany after the unification , he started in his last two active years under an Austrian license for the Upper Austrian RSC Regau .

After the 1994 season, Beckhusen ended his active career.
